Men's Soccer
I'm greatly encouraged by the season so far but would caution against expectations of replicating the success of the women's team in the ACC (at least for this year). Some points:
1) Although we beat two teams when they were ranked, both of those teams are now 0-4.
2) The 4 teams we have played are a collective 0-14-2.
3) We have won exactly 8 ACC games in the last 8 seasons. Four of those wins are against NC State including our only 2 road wins. We didn't win a league game last year (we did have 3 ties).
4) Even when we went to the Final 4 in 2007 we were only 4-3-4 in the ACC.
5) The 12 team ACC (FSU, GT and UM don't play men's soccer) has 7 teams in the rankings. Massey has 10 teams in the top 36 including #'s 1, 2, 3 and 4. We have to play all 4 plus #13 UVa and #36 Duke.
Anything near .500 in the ACC should get us in the NCAA tournament. The program is on a generally upward arc since Briz took over in 2009. He seems to be cementing his position for at least the near future.
